Swiatek Returns after Wimbledon Shock

One of the two favourites to win the Wimbledon title, the world number one Swiatek was sent packing in the quarterfinals of the tournament by the 5/1 underdog Elina Svitolina.

That shouldn’t take away from the fact that Swiatek has had a clay court season to remember yet again, winning 19 of the 21 matches she has played in. This includes a title victory at the French Open, another in Stuttgart and a finals appearance in Madrid.

She now returns to her home competition and one she hasn’t won yet in her career.

It was played in 2021 when Swiatek did not participate in it and then in 2022, Swiatek was shocked by Caroline Garcia in three sets in the quarterfinal.

The world number one will hope she can turn that around with a deep run that culminates into a title victory this week. It starts with a straightforward enough opening match.

Abduraimova Hasn’t Won a Match on the WTA Circuit This Year

Abduraimova’s career-best ranking of 144th came in 2014. Since then her journey has all been downhill and it’s only over the last couple of years that Abduraimova has managed to find some respite.

That has come in the form of her performances at the ITF level with the Kazakh player winning two such titles in 2022 and having added one more in 2023 too. This year’s tournament victory came on the clay courts of Oeiras and she followed it up with a semifinal appearance in Saint-Gaudens.

Again, that was on the ITF circuit and on clay.

More recently, however, Abduraimova has made the main draw at the WTA 125 event in Bastad and again in Palermo last week but lost her openers at both.

And by the looks of it, things might not be too different this time around either.

Swiatek v Abduraimova Prediction and Tip

Swiatek will be a huge favourite as expected but the over 15.5 games market looks like a good one to go for.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 15.5 games in the match: 5/6
