Rublev Coming off Bastad Title

In winning the Bastad Open just last week, Rublev had added a second title to his kitty for the season having earlier lifted the Monte-Carlo Masters trophy as well.

And what was so special about that tournament victory was that Rublev was drawn to face Alexander Zverev, Francisco Cerundolo and Casper Ruud in three successive matches in that tournament. He won them all, defeating Zverev and Ruud in straight sets and needing two tie-breakers from the three sets he faced against Cerundolo.

Rublev’s overall record this year also reads a solid 41-14, with three other finals appearance to go with the aforementioned tournament victories.

He will be the title favourite here as well but starts off against a player who has done well on clay since last season.

Zapata Miralles Ousted in Bastad Second Round

After scraping through to an opening round win over Hugo Dellien in the first round at the Bastad Open last week, Zapata Miralles was downed in the second round by Sebastian Ofner. Zapata Miralles was up a set in that encounter before losing in three.

What will be a tad concerning for Zapata Miralles is that his form in recent times has tapered off which has seen in his rankings too.

The Spaniard had hit a career-best ranking of 37th in the world in May thanks to the start he had to the year which saw him win seven of the 10 matches he had played on clay. Zapata Miralles would go on to appear in the fourth round of the Madrid Masters as well but since then he hasn’t done too much of note on clay.

In fact since that appearance at Madrid, he has won just three of the eight matches he’s played on clay and lost a further three on grass.

No surprises then that his ranking has tapered off as well, even as he starts off a 9/2 underdog here.

Rublev v Zapata Miralles Prediction and Tip

Rublev’s place in the second round should be secured easily and even if there’s a bit of a fight it wouldn’t last for more than a set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Games Handicap Zapata Miralles +5.5: 8/11
