Musetti has risen to 18th in the world and that has been down to his consistent returns at the highest level. Here’s a case in point.
Since his second round exit at the Madrid Masters, Musetti has featured in six tournaments and at each one of them, the Italian player has won at least two successive matches. At the French Open he made the fourth round with three wins in a row.
After a grass swing in which Musetti ended with six wins and three defeats, he returned to clay court tennis at Bastad and did something similar.
Wins over Matteo Arnaldi and Filip Misolic brought him to the semifinal where he was run over by Casper Ruud.
With that kind of consistency under his belt, it’s difficult to see him get beat here by a player ranked outside the top 180.

Ymer Makes It Through the Qualifiers
At one point in his career, Ymer was knocking on the doors of the top 100 rankings in the world. Now, he has fallen to 186th and that has been down to his lack of favourable results at the highest level of tennis.
There have been a few wins on the Challenger circuit for Ymer but not too many at the ATP 250s.
And that was on show last week too when he went down to Leo Borg in the first round of his home competition at Bastad. This was despite Ymer starting out a 1/10 favourite in the encounter.
Credit where it’s due though. With the kind of defeat he suffered in Bastad last week, Ymer has come back well to win both his qualifiers here rather easily.
And while Musetti represents the kind of opponent who will be very difficult to surmount, Ymer will want to continue to show improvement.
