Karolina Pliskova v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players.
Vondrousova – the Latest Youngster to Join the Fray
A common theme on the WTA Tour so far this season has been the exceptional display of skills and talent by young and upcoming players. Marketa Vondrousova is the most recent member of that club, following her brilliant performance over the last couple of weeks.
The 19-year-old Czech earlier reached the final in Budapest where she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck. After that, she played in the Indian Wells where she reached the quarterfinal after defeating Daria Kasatkina, Jelena Ostapenko, and Simona Halep.
This is a brilliant turnaround in her form, given that in the Australian Open, she had lost to Petra Martic in the second round.
In Miami, Vondrousova has been quite clinical as usual, starting with a straight-set win over Barbora Strycova. She then defeated Ostapenk once again to reach the third round. Over there, she defeated the Belgian Elise Mertens and followed it with a win over Tatjana Maria. Throughout her campaign so far, she is yet to drop a set.
Vondrousova has also had a couple of good runs last year, having reached the semifinal in WTA Gstaad and fourth round in the US Open.
Another Quarterfinal for Pliskova
Pliskova started her season with a winning run in the Brisbane International and followed it with a semifinal feat in the Australian Open. She continued to play with sheer consistency and determination, as she later reached the quarterfinal in WTA Dubai and Indian Wells.
It just seems to be another day at the office for the number 5 seed, who is yet to show signs of slowing down (or incur a defeat in the early stages of a tournament) this year. In Miami too, the WTA Tokyo champion has been impressive, starting with a comfortable win over Martic and then defeating Alize Cornet and Yulia Putintseva.
With those three wins, her win-loss record for the year has improved to 19-4 – one of the best on the tours.
Pliskova v Vondrousova Predictions & Tips
Two of the four defeats that Pliskova has incurred this year came against the youngsters – Naomi Osaka in Melbourne and Belinda Bencic in Indian Wells. Vondrousova is certainly a talented player and has been in a brilliant form of late. Just like Pliskova, this is her second consecutive quarterfinal showing and can definitely give her compatriot a good fight.
Pliskova will have to rely on her experience here and ensure that she doesn’t succumb to the early pressure.
Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (Bet365)
