They had faced off once before this on the Futures circuit in which Piros had won in straight sets.

Prizmic Wins First Ever Match of His Career

Earlier this year, Prizmic had qualified for the Banja Luka Open, his second career main draw match at the highest level. Prizmic was crushed in straight sets by Richard Gasquet in that one.

A few months on, the 17-year-old from Croatia has made it to the second round of an ATP tournament for the first time in his career as he overcame the fellow wildcard entrant Duje Ajdukovic in his opener.

Prizmic was on court for a mere hour and 18 minutes as he came through 6-1, 6-2 in his opener against his countryman.

He faced just one break-point in the match while getting past Ajdukovic’s serve on four occasions from the five opportunities he got. And already perched at his career-best ranking of 287th, this win will help Prizmic rise up further on the charts.

What could make this even more special is if he can make it two in two here, facing up to a player who has himself registered a shock opening result.

Piros Takes Care of O’Connell

Coming into this tournament, Piros had won six matches in his senior career but all of those had come in Davis Cup. Which is why his straight-set drubbing of Christopher O’Connell in the first round here despite starting out a 1/1 underdog would have meant a lot to Piros.

The 22-year-old is a clay-court specialist, especially at the lower levels of tennis, having won eight of his nine Challengers and Futures titles on that surface.

At the highest level, however, he hasn’t got any opportunity before this competition in which he had entered as a direct qualifier for a change. And Piros made his presence felt.

He needed an hour and 22 minutes to get past O’Connell, breaking him once in each of the two sets to win 6-3, 6-4. In the process, he also saved all four of the break-points he faced and ensured there would be no comebacks from his Aussie opponent.

Piros will think he has a good chance to make it two in two.

Prizmic v Piros Prediction and Tip

Prizmic is solidly talented but in terms of experience, Piros holds a slight edge and we will be going with him here. Might see a third set though.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Piros to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 10/11
