Lorenzo Sonego v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit way back in 2016 and Cecchinato had won that one.

Sonego On a Losing Streak

Once ranked 21st in the world, Sonego has fallen off the radar a little and that has been down to the kind of performances that he has dished out in recent times.

Case in point his showing this whole season.

Sonego made the fourth round at the French Open, which was brilliant going given he defeated Andrey Rublev on his way there but then again came his performances after that. In the seven matches that have followed since then, he has won just two.

Four of those five defeats have been in a row including one last week at Gstaad where he was sent packing by the 19/10 underdog Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

He gets another bye here but is up against a lowly-ranked but clay-court specialist in his second round encounter. Can he prevent a fifth straight defeat?

Cecchinato Ends His Five-Match Losing Run

While Sonego will be busy trying to prevent a fifth successive loss, he will be up against a player who had already lost five in a row before coming into this tournament. And no surprises then Cecchinato was a 8/5 underdog in his opening round match against Alexander Shevchenko.

When Cecchinato lost the first set to Shevchenko, the writing looked to be on the wall. More so when he went a break down in the second set.

The turnaround came in the eighth game when Cecchinato broke his opponent right back and then grabbed the set in a tie-breaker, winning that to love.

And an early break in the decider gave Cecchinato the much-needed advantage before he broke Shevchenko yet again to finally break his losing streak.

Can he now relegate Sonego to his fifth loss in a row?

Sonego v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a humdinger with neither player in particularly great confidence mode. Might see another three-setter here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
