Taylor Fritz v Wu Yibing Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in the semifinal of the Dallas Open earlier this year in which Yibing managed to shock Fritz.

Fritz Looking at Hard Court Swing to Change His Fortunes
Things looked to be going rather brilliantly for Fritz at the start of the season as he went on to help USA clinch the United Cup, won the title at the Delray Beach and made the quarterfinals at both, the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters.
It wasn’t too bad at the start of the clay season either when Fritz was entered the semifinal at the Monte-Carlo Masters and then did something similar at the Munich Open and Geneva Open.
It’s over the last five tournaments, Fritz could have done a lot better.
He first crashed out of the French Open in the third round and then won just three of the seven matches he played on grass too. That included a second round defeat at Wimbledon.
What Fritz will now hope for is to turn his fortunes around when he takes to his favourite hardcourt. And obviously hope for a revenge for his defeat to Yibing in Dallas.

Yibing Eases Past Moutet
While Yibing wasn’t in the best of form coming into this tournament, he had started out a 9/20 favourite in his first round encounter against Corentin Moutet. And the bookmakers got that very right as the world number 89 eased to a straight-set win over his French opponent.
Yibing won 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 29 minutes to advance to the second round for the first time in four tournaments.
In a match that saw Yibing face just 1 break-point – and he saved that easily – he was able to carve out 11 such opportunities for his own self. While he broke Moutet just twice, that was enough to see him through and seal his second round berth.
This sets up a meeting with a player he had defeated on his way to his maiden ATP career title earlier this year in Dallas. Strangely though, Yibing hasn’t done too well after that, making it past the second round in only other tournament.
Can he turn that around here?
Fritz v Yibing Prediction and Tip
Lightning might not strike twice as Fritz can be expected to be better prepared for Yibing this time. Add that with the latter’s lack of form and we could be looking at a straight-set win for Fritz here.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Fritz to win in straight sets: 5/6
