He was always the favourite but the manner in which Wolf drilled a win over his first round opponent makes him a player to watch this tournament.
Wolf needed an hour and 13 minutes to clinch a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jason Jung in his opener, in the process making this his career best performance at Atlanta.
Two breaks of serves in the first set, and two more in the second is all that Wolf needed to come through with the American also facing just one break-point and saving that as well. With a first serve winning record of 81% in the match, Wolf was always going to be difficult to break.
This follows a solid season of hardc0urt tennis for Wolf earlier this year in which he had made the fourth round at the Australian Open and the semifinal in Dallas. Can he push on deeper as he now faces an out of sorts Cressy?

Cressy Finally Wins a Match
He had defeated Daniel Elahi Galan at the Eastbourne International late last month but that had been Cressy’s only high level win since February this year. Losses had piled up and his ranking had descended down to 105th from a career-best of 31st in the world.
One of these defeats had come to Alex Michelsen in the last match he had played in Newport last week.
As luck would have it, Cressy was drawn to play Michelsen again but this time around he turned it around with a spanking straight-set win as we had predicted in our preview here. Cressy clinched it 6-3, 6-3 in a match lasting an hour and 18 minutes.
Cressy won a whopping 93% of his first serve points and did not face a single break-point in the match while overcoming Michelsen’s serve on three occasions.
Can he now put up a fight against Wolf as well?
