Watson Knocks Out Siniakova

Heather Watson knocked out third seed Katerina Siniakova in the first round of the Poland Open on Tuesday.

Watson had missed out on three set points when she served for the first set at 5-3, but despite allowing Siniakova to break back, she got a second break in the final game to take a one-set-to-love lead.

In the second set, the Czech got a break in the very first game and built a 0-2 lead but the Briton rebounded and won six games in a row to win the one hour and 26 minutes contest 7-5, 6-2.

Watson, who was a semifinalist in Nottingham and a quarterfinalist in Hua Hin, will be looking to reach her third tour level quarterfinal of then season.

The world no. 146 has featured in two ITF finals this year, one on hard and another on indoor court, but she finished runner-up in both of them.

Hatouka Edges Past Ponchet

Belarusian qualifier Yuliya Hatouka won her first tour level match of the season when she knocked out Jessika Ponchet of France in the opening round.

After both players had won a set each, Hatouka found herself 3-5 down in the final set, but despite staring at defeat, the Belarusian fought back and won four games in a row to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Hatouka had made it to the main draw with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kateryna Bondarenko in the first qualifying round and a 46, 6-4, 6-2 win over Valeria Savinykh in the second qualifying round.

Hatouka is 26-15 across levels this year. She has featured in three ITF finals this year, winning one and losing one on clay and finishing runner-up in the hard court final.
