Laslo Djere has been a very good clay player for a very long time though people probably underestimate how good he really is. His run in Hamburg is proving how good he can be. He defeated Roland Garros quarter-finalist Tomas Etcheverry in the first run 7-6(2) 6-3.
He followed that up with another solid win over Guido Pella 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book a spot in the quarter-final. Musetti has been a good matchup for him as he beat him the last two times they play on clay he might do that against considering how well he’s playing.
The conditions suit him well because he can utilize his serve on top of his forehand which is perfectly suited for clay tennis.
It’s going to be a tough one against Musetti who has been spectacular on clay so far but so has Djere. He has only two wins less than the Italian on the surface.

Musetti Marches Towards Title Defence
Lorenzo Musetti si the defending champion of this event having beaten Carlos Alcaraz in the final last year. It was a spectacular show of skill from the Italian last year but he’s not playing on that level this year. His 1st round match was a solid win over Elias Ymer 6-4 6-1 but his second-round win was a tough one.
He faced Jozef Kovalik and needed three sets 3-6 6-2 6-4 to get it done. It shows a certain vulnerability, one an experienced player like Djere could use.
The Serbian has defeated Musetti five times already and several of those came on clay. Both have played on a similar level so far this year but Musetti is widely considered the better talent overall. Hamburg suits him though he’s not playing on the same level as last year.
It’s going to be tough but Musetti can get it done especially if he shows up with his best tennis. If not, it’s going to be problematic.
