Denis Shapovalov v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
The two gents have met only twice and have got a win each. Both of those matches took place in 2018 itself, with their most recent meeting being the Cincinnati Masters. It was the Canadian who won that match in three sets.
A Brilliant Performance by the Two in Miami
Shapovalov and Tiafoe have achieved a lot in Miami and have respectively delivered their best performances of the season.
Both of them started their campaign in the second round with a bye. Shapovalov first defeated Daniel Evans and then moved past the likes of Andrey Rublev and most impressively, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
As for Tiafoe, he began his run with a straight-set win over Miomir Kecmanovic and followed it with a couple of good wins over David Ferrer and David Goffin.
An Overview of their Recent Forms
In the recently concluded Indian Wells Open, Shapovalov reached the fourth round while Tiafoe lost his opener to Nicolas Jarry. Between the two, Tiafoe hasn’t been as consistent as his Canadian counterpart.
The young American had a sensational run in the Australian Open where he reached the quarterfinal after defeating Kevin Anderson, Andreas Seppi, and Grigor Dimitrov. But following his run in Melbourne, he lost early in New York, Delray Beach, and the Mexican Open.
Meanwhile, Shapovalov reached the quarterfinal in the Rotterdam Open and ATP Montpellier. He also won both of his matches in Davis Cup this year.
Shapovalov v Tiafoe Predictions & Tips
Shapovalov is currently the World No. 23 while Tiafoe is 11 places below him. The Canadian, who is yet to reach a final on the ATP Tour, was a semifinalist in last year’s Madrid Masters and ATP Tokyo. At the same time, Tiafoe won the ATP Delray Beach last year and was later the runner-up in Estoril Open. Furthermore, he has won more titles on the Challenger circuit than Shapovalov.
The point here is that this will be an evenly matched fixture. They are young and haven’t shown any signs of fatigue or slowing down. Expect this one to be an exhilarating battle.
Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Bet365)
