That was only the beginning of great things to come from Svitolina. She reached the quarterfinal in the French Open and the semis in Wimbledon – owing to these results, Elina broke into the top 30 after starting the season outside the top 1000.
What’s impressive is her victories during this time, which came against the likes of Iga Swiatek, Venus Williams, Elise Mertens, Sofia Kenin, and Daria Kasatkina.
Sailing high on form and momentum, Svitolina is certainly a player to beat in Washington this week.
Historically, she has done well around this time of the calendar. In 2021, she won the Chicago Open, while in 2017, she was the champion in the Canadian Open.

Azarenka, Fielding Experience
33-year-old Victoria Azarenka is coming off a fourth-round exit in Wimbledon.
Her record for the season stands at 17-13 – with her best result coming in January when she was a semifinalist in the Australian Open. Since then, Vika has not quite managed to move into the closing rounds on the WTA circuit.
It’s been a litany of mid-round appearances for the former #1, who is now 17-13 for the year.
Having said that, Azarenka is a three-time US Open finalist with several notable results in American tournaments. If anything, this is a chance for her to turn things around and finally bag her first title since the 2020 Cincinnati Open.
