World No. 24 Qinwen Zheng is cruising high on confidence after winning her first WTA singles trophy.
Competing in the Palermo Ladies Open, the 20-year-old went the distance – beating Emma Navarro, Mayar Sherif, and Jasmine Paolini in the final rounds.
With that result, Zheng is now 22-13 for the season and has made up for her abysmal grass swing, where she went without a win.
As for Qinwen’s form on hard courts this year, she has 11 wins against six losses. Her best results came in Abu Dhabi and Miami, reaching the semifinal and round four, respectively.
Zheng is a skilled player and commands a great deal of seriousness from her opponents. What will be interesting to see is how quickly she navigates the switch to concrete – against a player who is the home favourite.

Keys, Seeded Number 7
Madison Keys will commence her US Open preparations in Washington DC this week.
Her last tournament was Wimbledon, where she fell in the quarterfinal to Aryna Sabalenka. Before that, the American won the Eastbourne International to win her first trophy of the season.
Now ranked #16, Keys has had an interesting season – marked by 25 wins and just nine defeats.
Earlier in the year, she guided her team to the United Cup trophy and followed it with a quarterfinal stint in Dubai and Charleston.
Madison, a former US Open finalist, has some pedigree to make her case in the Citi Open. Over the years, she has won the Cincinnati Open and Silicon Valley Classic and was also the runner-up in the Canadian Open.
Keys v Zheng Prediction and Tip
This should be an exciting match. Keys is far more experienced, and given her home advantage, she will start as the favourite. That said, it hasn’t been an entirely flawless season for the seeded player – given her shock losses at the hands of Kayla Day and Anhelina Kalinina.
Zheng has precedents laid out for her, and given her abilities, she should fancy her chances.
