The Dutchman began the season by reaching his first ever ATP final at the Maharashtra Open, where he triumphed by beating Benjamin Bonzi in the final. Six months later, the 27-year-old won his second career title, by beating Jordan Thompson in the final of the Rosmalen Open.
Seeded no. 12th in Washington, Griekspoor had a first round bye. This is the first time he is competing in Washington and brings a 23-12 season record into the tournament.
Griekspoor is 9-4 on hard courts his season and is expected to get off to a fine start.

Broady Ousts Moutet
Britain’s Liam Broady got his campaign off to a winning start as the 29-year-old knocked out France’s Corentin Moutet in the first round on Monday.
The left-handed Briton saved a set point in the 12th game of the opening set, before blanking the Frenchman in the tiebreak and taking the opening set.
Both players had broken each other thrice each in the opening set and then they exchanged a break early in the second as well, but it was Broady who broke again later in the set and ten held on to the lead to complete a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 victory.
The world no. 125 improved his season record to 6-6 on the tour. Overall, he is 27-16 across levels. Broady’s best at the tour level saw him reach the third round at Wimbledon. At the Challenger level, he has featured in two finals this season, winning one and finishing runner-up in the other.
