Coric Hoping to Overturn Poor Hardcourt Record

While Coric has galloped back into the top 15 ranking this season thanks to his semifinal appearance on the clay courts of Madrid and the quarterfinal showing in Rome, he has not quite been able to crack the hardcourt code for the year.

Having started out with a couple of wins at the United Cup earlier this year, Coric went on to crash out of the Australian Open in the very first round.

A quarterfinal appearance in Dubai would have done his confidence some good but opening round defeats to Alex Molcan and Christopher Eubanks at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters respectively made for puzzling viewing.

This is a player who has a Cincinnati Masters 1000 title to his name having won it last year, which makes his hardcourt showing this season all the more surprising.

The good news for Coric is he now enters familiar territory – the US Open Swing follows soon – and he will be hoping to take advantage of that.

Jung Edges Past Escobedo

Having entered his first round match against Ernesto Escobedo as a 19/20 underdog, Jung managed to overcome a first set deficit to win his opener in three sets.

Jung had made the main draw as a lucky loser following a defeat at the hands of Omni Kumar in the qualifiers and it looked like he was on his way to another defeat when he lost his serve in the second game of the encounter.

He failed to break back and was a set down soon after but then mounted a solid comeback. The first job was to continue holding his serve which he did through most of the second set and while he was broken while serving for the set at 5-3, Jung came back to level things out in the following tie-breaker.

Two early breaks in the decider then sealed the deal for Jung as he registered his first main draw win for the season.

Things could be a little different against Coric.

Coric v Jung Prediction and Tip
