Raina Beats Strycova
India’s Ankita Raina, ranked World No. 196, started her journey in Prague as a qualifier. In the prelims, she beat the likes of Dayana Yastremska and Amelie Smejkalova in straight sets.
In the opener, the 30-year-old played the Czech veteran Barbora Strycova and won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two and a half hours.
This is also the first time this season that Raina made it to round two in a WTA tournament. But then again, this is only her fifth tour-level event of the season. In her previous attempts, which include the two last majors, Libema Open, and WTA Warsaw, Raina had to contend with qualifying/first-round defeats.
Ankita’s best result of the year came on the ITF Tour in Bangalore and Jakarta, where she was a runner-up.

Noskova Continues to Impress
Linda Noskova’s win-loss tally now stands at 24-15. She is also World No. 71 at the moment, having peaked at the 45th spot just in June.
The Czech teenager is looking to join the list of elite tennis stars from her nation, and by all means, she is well on the path to doing that and more.
Noskova began her campaign in Prague with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elvina Kalieva in 61 minutes. She arrived for the tournament on the back of a quarterfinal stint in Warsaw.
Apart from this, Linda’s other highlights include quarterfinal stints in Paris and Makarska 125, and WTA Lyon. She was also the runner-up in Adelaide International, where she beat a handful of big names like Victoria Azarenka and Ons Jabeur.
Noskova v Raina Prediction and Tip
The writing is on the wall for this one. Despite Raina’s experience, Noskova will start as the favourite on account of her home advantage and an exceptional season. Expect the youngster to reach the quarterfinal comfortably.
