Thiem Pulls Through against Zhang

Dominic Thiem has been pulling through for a while now as the Austrian won both of his matches this week with comebacks. The first match against Facundo Bagnis saw him open badly but then really to win the match in two sets 6-4 7-5.

The second match was even more dramatic as he got smashed by Zhizhen Zhang in the first set only to come back in superb fashion 1-6 6-3 6-2. It was a pretty stark difference, the start and finish but it doesn’t really help much in predicting outcomes.

Yes, he’s winning but he’s not really playing that consistently which sooner or later will backfire on him. Rinderknech is a solid player, one that benefits from the conditions of the event and beating him will take a stable effort, from start to finish.

Thiem’s 17-23 so far this year doesn’t give you much confidence but he’s a former champion here playing in front of his fans. That certainly helps.

Rinderknech Outclasses Hanfmann

Rinderknech knows how to play well at this event because he’s done it in the past. He’s a former semi-finalist here reaching that stage at the event in 2021 when he was beaten by Casper Ruud, the eventual champion.

He’s facing a potential winner of the event in Thiem, a player he never played before. This isn’t the best version of Thiem, but his wins so far this week certainly prove that he can beat you if you give him the chance. That’s the win condition for Rinderknech, he needs to keep him away from many break points.

The altitude and serve should help. So far it worked out well as he beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the first round 6-7(3) 6-4 6-2 and Yannick Hanfmann 7-6(3) 6-3 in the second round.

Atiebreak could be likely against Thiem and he needs to win those if he hopes to win the match. It will be close but much will depend on his serve.

Thiem v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip

I’ll go risky here by backing Thiem to win the match as these wins probably gave him confidence. He could lose which makes the over another solid option but I’ll go with the match win.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Thiem to win the match: 5/6
