Christopher Eubanks v Jordan Thompson Head to Head

Eubanks Overcomes Shimabukuro
In a match that was expected to go Eubanks’ way without a lot of trouble, he overcame Shimabukuro in straight sets to set up a third round meeting with Thompson.
Eubanks has been touted as the next big player coming from the USA and he lived up to the favourites odds as he took a mere hour and 12 minutes to get past Shimabukuro. He won 6-3, 6-4.
The first set was a bit of a cakewalk for Eubanks who broke his opponent in the sixth game before saving a break-point and serving it out soon after. He lost a total of five points on his own serve in that set.
Shimabukuro retaliated with an early break of serve that gave him a 2-0 lead but from that point onward, it was one-way traffic as Eubanks overcame his serve on two occasions. Soon after he would serve it out to pouch the match.
Thompson will be a slightly tougher opponent having beaten him twice but this is also a different level of confidence we are seeing from Eubanks.

Thompson Shocks Mannarino
Given Adrian Mannarino’s form and his overall record against Thompson he looked like he had an advantage coming into their second round match.
And for most part of the first set, it looked like Mannarino was very much playing to the script as he went 2-0 up and was soon serving for the set at 5-4.
The twist in the tale came at that point as Thompson broke his French opponent twice in a row to pocket the set against the run of play. He then lost just three points on his serve in the second set before breaking Mannarino to love at 4-5 to win it.
This follows his three-set win over Kevin Anderson in the first round which should give him a lot of faith in his own abilities coming into this round. After all, Thompson has had a solid grass court season as well and a win here gives him his career-best performance in this tournament.
Eubanks v Thompson Prediction and Tip
Eubanks starts off a favourite here for us for obvious reasons but Thompson cannot be ignored because of the kind of form he has shown over the last couple of months. Might see a third set.
