World no. 37 Tallon Griekspoor began his Washington Open campaign with an easy win over Liam Broady in the second round.
The 12th seed Dutchman did not even face a break point, while he broke the world no. 125 once in the first set and twice in the second to score a 6-4, 6-2 victory in an hour and 25 minutes.
Griekspoor served 9 aces and struck 25 winners, while dropping just seven points on his serve in the entire match.
With the win the Dutchman improved his season record to 24-12 at the tour level and he is one win away from reaching a sixth quarterfinal of the season. It has been a fantastic year for the 27-year-old so far, which has seen him reach the first two ATP finals of his career and he triumphed in both of them, lifting the trophies in Pune and ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Monfils Takes Down Sixth Seed Bublik
World no. 323 Gael Monfils seems to be back in his elements as he took down sixth seed Alexander Bublik to march into the round of 16.
The 36-year-old Frenchman, who is known for his agility, moved well throughout the contest and used his speed and power to beat the Kazakh 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes.
Monfils saved 5 of 6 break points in the match and converted 3 of 10 breaking opportunities to move past the world no. 25.
Monfils, who has not played much this season, had also won his first round match in straight sets, defeating local hope Bjorn Fratangelo with an identical scoreline.
The 11-time tour level champion has improved his season record to 3-5 at the tour level. On Thursday, he will aim to reach the quarterfinal in Washington for the fourth time in his fifth attempt. Monfils had won the title here in 2016 and was the runner-up in 2011. Besides he was also a semifinalist in 2007. The only time he didn’t make the last eight stage was in 2017, when he lost in the second round.

This is going to be an intriguing contest between the in-form Griekspoor and the resurgent Monfils.
