After having not faced much of a problem in the first round against Omni Kumar, Kovacevic overcame his 7/2 winning odds to send Cameron Norrie out of the competition.
In a match lasting two hours and 53 minutes, Kovacevic was a shock winner despite losing the first set and missing out on four set-point opportunities in the second.
Kovacevic came through 5-7, 7-6 (7), 6-4 over his world number 13 opponent in a topsy-turvy but a cagey encounter that saw just two breaks of serves. The first came late in the first set which allowed Norrie to grab the lead while the second went in favour of Kovacevic in the ninth game of the decider.
In the following game, Kovacevic was down a break-point before going on to clinch the match off his second match-point.
Rather interestingly, Kovacevic had entered this tournament on the back of just one main draw win all season. Suddenly he has tripled that count.

Koepfer Crushes Duckworth
For the second match in a row, Koepfer did not face too much resistance and came through with an easy win.
After sending Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera out in straight sets in the first round, Koepfer registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory against James Duckworth to seal his quarterfinal berth.
In a match lasting just 75 minutes, Koepfer broke Duckworth four times while saving the only break-point he faced. His own serve proved to be too lethal for his opponent to handle as Koepfer dropped just six points off his first serve and a further six off the second in the entire match.
This means Koepfer will be featuring in his second quarterfinal of the season, both of which have come in the last one week. Before this, Koepfer hadn’t won a single main draw match at any level in a hardcourt competition.
