They have played each other once before, on the clay of Lausanne in 2018, Cornet winning their semi-final match in straight sets.

Cornet Second Highest Ranked Survivor

Cornet is now the second highest ranked player still standing in Prague as the seeds continue to tumble around her.

Not that the Frenchwoman has had things all her own way in Prague, needing three sets to get past the Czech wildcard Lucie Havlickova in the first round.

Things did not get any easier in her next match with the Estonian veteran Kai Kanepi either. She only won the first set after a tie-break, and then, in a second set riddled with dropped serves, had the chance to serve for the match, only to suffer a sudden dip in form which enabled the Estonian to level things up.

After the pair swapped breaks early in the third set, Cornet dug deep, broke Kanepi again, and this time held on for the win.

Korpatsch Benefits From Belgian Retirement

Korpatsch had been in poor form arriving in Prague, so she would have been glad to have started her campaign with a win against Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria, although what had seemed straightforward when she was a set and two breaks up, serving for the match, became unexpectedly difficult when the Bulgarian mounted a comeback.

Both breaks were recovered, but, before the recovery could be complete, Tomova handed the match to her by dropping her serve once more.

The German had begun as the underdog in her next match with Yanina Wickmayer, but having gone two breaks up, Korpatsch saw her opponent retire with an injury. It was not the way she would have wanted to progress, but she will take it.

Cornet v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Although Cornet has had her struggles so far this week, she did beat Korpatsch in their only previous meeting. She is also the seed and higher ranked player, although that does not seem to have counted for much in Prague this week.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Cornet to win: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 23.5 games in the match: 4/7
