Grigor Dimitrov v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these players and Dimitrov has won both. The first came indoors at the 2019 Paris Masters while the second was at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters.

Dimitrov Tames Ruusuvuori

For the second match in a row, Dimitrov showed what he is capable of when he’s in full flow as he came away a straight-set winner to make the quarterfinals.

Dimitrov, who had eased past Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the tournament following a first round bye, registered a 6-4, 6-3 win over Emil Ruusuvuori in their third round encounter.

In a match that went on for an hour and 47 minutes, Dimitrov overcame some serving yips in the first set to carve out two breaks of serves. Things got a lot better in the second though as Dimitrov broke Ruusuvuori in the fourth game while losing just six points on his own serve in the entire set.

He frittered away a match-point on his opponent’s serve but converted the first he got off his own in the very next game.

Having made the quarterfinal of this event once before this, long ago in 2013, Dimitrov will look to go one better in this one.

Humbert Blasts Watanuki Away

After having needed three sets in his second round match against Thanasi Kokkinakis, Humbert did not waste a lot of time in his third round win over Yosuke Watanuki.

In a mere 64 minutes, the world number 36 Humbert took a step closer towards breaking back into the top 30 of the rankings when he outclassed his Japanese opponent.

He won 6-0, 6-2 with Humbert breaking Watanuki five times in the encounter. In turn, the Frenchman did not face a single break-point in the entire match.

This follows a solid showing from Humbert at the Atlanta Open last week where he had made the semifinal on the back of wins over Constant Lestienne, Lloyd Harris and Alex de Minaur. Can he now take the scalp of his 20th-ranked opponent whom he has never beaten in the past?

Dimitrov v Humbert Prediction and Tip

If Dimitrov continues to play the way he has in recent times, he should manage a win here but we could see a bit of a tussle.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Dimitrov to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/10
