Tiafoe Hoping to Improve on His Canadian Open Showing

Tiafoe has broken into the top 10 for the first time this season and at the time of writing is doing a fairly good job at the Washington Open.

However, he will need to turn things around when it comes to his performances in the Canadian Open where he has barely won a match. In fact, for a player with aspirations to win a Grand Slam title or even a Masters 1000 competition, Tiafoe’s best ever showing in this tournament came in 2021 where he reached the third round.

Last year, he overcame Benjamin Bonzi to make it to the second round before falling in three sets to Taylor Fritz.

Overall this year though, Tiafoe has given an indication of being a much-improved player on hardcourt surfaces having helped USA win the United Cup and with a semifinal appearance at the Indian Wells Masters to boot as well.

Can he grab a quick win here?

Raonic Returned Earlier This after a Two-Year Layoff

Injuries and other concerns had laid Raonic low for two years before this season and at one point it had seemed like he might have to announce his retirement from tennis.

Raonic has, however, worked his way back to full fitness and while he is still some way away from being the kind of quality he exuded as a world number three, he now has the option of walking away from the sport of his volition.

Having earned a wildcard to his home tournament in Toronto, the buzz is it could be the last time we might see this champion tennis player. That being the case, Raonic will love for him to dish out a performance to remember if this ends up being his last match.

The Canadian player has played a couple of tournaments this season before this, winning a round apiece at Rosmalen and Wimbledon respectively. He lost in the second round at both, but there was enough in his performances to suggest he still belongs.

Tiafoe v Raonic Prediction and Tip

Tiafoe might be the favourite here but Raonic will be one to watch and could put the pressure back on his opponent with nothing to lose there.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
