Dimitrov Gets a Walkover from Humbert

In what turned out to be an easy entry into the semifinal of the tournament for Dimitrov, he benefitted from the withdrawal of Ugo Humbert before their last eight encounter.

Humbert had suffered a left leg injury which meant that he did not take to court, allowing his Bulgarian opponent a free ride to the last four.

Dimitrov had earlier overcome Mackenzie McDonald in the second round following an opening bye. This was followed by a 6-4, 6-3 drubbing of Emil Ruusuvuori in the third round and now finds himself in the semifinal of this event for the first time in his career.

What needs to be seen is if Dimitrov can now make the final of an ATP tournament for the second this season having done that on the clay courts of Geneva in May.

Evans Wins Twice on the Same Day

Having struggled to get going at the Queen’s Club competition, Wimbledon and Atlanta, with opening round losses at all three of them, Evans clinched two victories on the same day to enter the last four stage of the Washington Open.

First up he defeated the world number 30 Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-3 on Friday following the postponement of that match from Thursday because of rain.

Evans then stunned the second seed and a top-10 player in Frances Tiafoe as he registered a 6-4, 7-5 win to enter the last four stage.

In doing so, Evans had made the third semifinal of the season and the first in a tournament outside of clay. He hasn’t entered the title-deciding stage this season before this, having last done that in February 2021 in Australia.

Can he overcome the Dimitrov challenge here?

Dimitrov v Evans Prediction and Tip
