After having needed a three-setter to get past Andy Murray in his third round win, Fritz did not waste a lot of time with his quarterfinal opponent in the form of Jordan Thompson.
While Thompson was coming into the encounter with form on his side, the class of Fritz ended that quicker than he thought it would. The match lasted a mere hour and 19 minutes and saw Fritz win 6-3, 6-3.
Fritz got the better of Thompson’s serve on three occasions while he faced two break-points and saved both of them.
This followed a comeback from behind win over Murray in which Fritz overcame the loss of the first set tie-breaker to clinch a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 victory.
In defeating Thompson, Fritz has now won seven matches in a row since his second round defeat at Wimbledon. Can he make it eight in eight?

Griekspoor Hunts Down Wolf
Griekspoor has had to navigate through a fairly tricky draw so far to make it to the semifinal but he has done so quite beautifully. After an opening bye, he had Liam Broady first up and he won that in straight sets.
In the third round, Griekspoor faced the challenge of Gael Monfils, who on his comeback trail this season and the Dutchman did not have it easy.
That match saw a total of four breaks of serves shared equally by the two players but it was Griekspoor who edged past his opponent with a crucial one in the decider. That came early in the third set and ended Monfils’ hopes.
Against JJ Wolf in the quarterfinal, Griekspoor was a 11/10 underdog but the manner in which he won was also something he would like to take with him in this semifinal. He faced no break-points and in turn overcame Wolf’s serve once apiece in the two sets to clinch his next round berth.
