Ostapenko Returns on Hard

Jelena Ostapenko last played at Wimbledon and this event will be her first event back on hard courts. She’s had a fairly decent year so far with a 27-14 record and the score on hard courts is 12-8.

Known as one of the biggest hitters on Tour, she’s a good fit on every surface because her style just overwhelms you on any surface. Due to her aggressive nature, she’s prone to play herself out of matches but for the most part, controls it rather well.

She’s had some trouble against Barady in their past matches because the American is capable of hitting really hard herself. In those types of matches the generally impatient Ostapenko seems to have trouble finding an edge herself.

This time around she’ll be facing Brady far from her best and that could work in her favour. I certainly expect her to produce a good effort.

Brady in Comeback Mode

Jennifer Brady has been away from the sport for a long time but she’s finally back to play tennis. The return was actually pretty decent with with a win over Anhelina Kalinina 6-2 6-1 that showed off all her talent. She didn’t really follow it up against Madison Keys losing 6-4 6-0 but it will take time.

Getting back to playing tennis on this level takes time but some of the things that she showed already are very promising. Health is key for her and if she remains healthy for the rest of this year then we could be seeing a very strong Brady next year.

Her last fully healthy season saw her post a 35-14 record and that’s pretty much the level she can play at. For now, it’s only 2-2 this year but expect a few more wins coming in the coming weeks.

I’m not optimistic it’s going to happen against Ostapenko but it might. Stranger things have happened.

Ostapenko v Brady Prediction and Tip

This is a great matchup when both are playing well. Brady has been okay and Ostapenko always surprises so this could easily be one of those that could go either way. I’ll stick with what’s expected and that’s for Ostapenko to win.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Ostapenko to win: 8/11
