Madison Keys v Venus Williams Head to Head

Keys leads 3-2, beating Williams last in the 2019 Cincinnati Open. They also met in Montreal back in 2016, where Madison won in three sets.

Williams Coming off a Slow Year

43-year-old Venus Williams is set to compete in her 11th Canadian Open. Her best result here came back in 2014 when she was a runner-up, having lost in the final to Agnieszka Radwanska.

The former world number one is looking for a similar result again, but in all fairness, it is going to be a next-to-impossible task.

Venus has competed in just four tournaments in 2023 and has a record of 2-4. She last participated in Wimbledon, where she fell to Elina Svitolina in the opener.

Williams’ last WTA win came back in June in Birmingham in the form of a three-set gruelling win over Camila Giorgi.

With 16 Grand Slam finals and some 60+ WTA career finals, there is no denying that Venus has had a spectacular career where she has truly left her mark on the WTA Tour. Of course, if she had the fitness of her youth, she could do it again in Montreal, but given her lack of form and momentum, it is clear that she will start as the underdog here.

Keys on a Steady Roll

Madison Keys kickstarted her American swing in the Citi Open, where she made it as far as the quarterfinal.

The 28-year-old, who is now ranked World No. 16, fell to Maria Sakkari in straight sets after dismissing Jennifer Brady and Qinwen Zheng.

Nonetheless, Keys has racked up 27 wins this season against just 10 losses. Among her highlights are her title runs in Eastbourne International and the United Cup, alongside a couple of final-eight appearances in Wimbledon, Dubai, and Charleston.

Like Williams, Madison was also a finalist in the Canadian Cup back in 2016. Since then, however, she has been beaten in round one in all her three stints. That is a tricky jinx to break – especially when you go head-to-head against someone like Venus.

Keys v Williams Prediction and Tip

Keys starts as the odds-on favourite here, but an upset can happen. Expect a cracking encounter.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Keys to win: 3/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
