There have been two previous meeting between these two players and Evans has won them both. The first came at the 2022 Davis Cup and then they faced off again in the same season in Antwerp.

Evans Drubs Dimitrov in Two

Having struggled through most part of the season, Evans has found form at the right time as he works his way into the US Open later this month.

The Brit had begun this tournament with the loss of the first set to Gregoire Barrere but since then hasn’t dropped a set. He overcame Aleksandar Shevchenko in the second round and then stunned the second seeded Frances Tiafoe in his quarterfinal encounter to set up this meeting with Grigor Dimitrov.

And for the second match in a row, Evans was longer than 2/1 to win the match and yet, came away a straight-set winner.

Evans grabbed the win 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a match that went on for nearly two hours with the Brit saving all four of the break-points that came against his way. He broke Dimitrov twice, both of which came in the opening set before saving two break-points in the very first game of the second set.

Both players held on to their respective serves from there on before Evans ran away with the tie-breaker from being 3-3 at one stage.

This will be Evans’ fourth career final and he will be aiming to win his second.

Griekspoor in Line for Third Season Title

While Griekspoor’s form looked to have tapered off during the clay court season when he fell to five defeats from eight matches, he has slowly and steadily come back well since then. Having hit a peak ranking of 29th in the world, Griekspoor had fallen off to 37th because of that but has now done enough to regain control of his ranking again.

Irrespective of the result of this match against Evans, he has already clinched a career-best ranking of 26th in the world and if he does go on to win the title, it would be his third of the season.

Griekspoor had begun the year with a tournament win in Pune and then overcome Jordan Thompson in the final of the Rosmalen Open.

Not too many players have grabbed three titles this season and for Griekspoor to do that will be special. Even more so after having overcome JJ Wolf and Taylor Fritz in successive matches to make the final.

Can he now make it past Evans for the first time in his career?

Evans v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip

Interestingly enough it’s Griekspoor who starts off a favourite and given him form and his ability to win finals this season we will have to go with him too.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Griekspoor to win: 8/11
