No. 14 seed Borna Coric heads to the Canadian Open in decent form, having featured in the Los Cabos Open semifinal this week.
Coric had beaten Jason Jung and Ilya Ivashka en route the semifinal, before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas. Overall, the Croatian is 18-15 at the tour level this year.
Coric’s best came on clay this season, which included a semifinal finish in Madrid and a quarterfinal finish in Rome. However, on hard courts, his performance in Los Cabos has been the best so far. He had previously reached the quarterfinal in Dubai.
Coric, who won the Cincinnati Masters in 2022, has a 4-6 record at the Canadian Masters, and he has never gone past the second round.
Last year, the 26-year-old had fallen in the first round in Toronto.

Dimitrov Continues to Impress in 2023
Facing Coric will be world no. 20 Grigor Dimitrov, who too was a semifinalist this week.
The Bulgarian defeated Mackenzie McDonald and Emil Ruusuvuori and received a walkover agains Ugo Humbert in the quarterfinal before falling to Dan Evans in the semifinal of the Washington Open.
It was Dimitrov’s third semifinal if the season. The 32-year-old former world no. 3 has seen a bit of resurgence this season. He has played some high quality tennis this year as a result of which he also succeeded in ending a five year finals drought, reaching the title clash in Geneva for the first time since finishing runner-up in Rotterdam in 2018. But he couldn’t add to his eight previous titles as he went down to Nicolas Jarry.
Dimitrov is still waiting to win his first title since winning the ATP Finals title in 2017.
Dimitrov is 28-14 this season, which includes a 7-5 record on hard courts. He is 11-9 in Toronto. His best in the tournament saw him reach the semifinals in 2014 and the quarterfinals in 2016 and 2018.
Coric v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip
Dimitrov has been the better player this season and has shown the better form on hard courts than his opponent. Expect him to advance by upsetting the 14th seed.
