Andy Murray v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
Andy Murray and Lorenzo Sonego have previously met once on the ATP Tour, with the Briton wining their clash in Doha in February in three sets.

Murray Bidding For Title No. 4 In Canada
Andy Murray’s US Open summer series began in earnest at the ATP 500 event in Washington where he lost to USA’s No. 1 player Taylor Fritz 7-6, 3-6, 4-6 in the second round.
It was certainly a match where Murray had his chances and will probably look back with regret for not taking them. It was an energy-sapping match that lasted the full three hours.
The former World No. 1 is 9-6 on hard courts this season, with his best result coming in Doha where he defeated Lorenzo Sonego en route to the title match, which he lost to Daniil Medvedev.
The bulk of his success this year came on the Challenger Tour, where he won three titles in the span of one and a half months.
And in spite of pulling out from the French Open, Murray put his eggs in one basket and focused on getting deep at Wimbledon. Unfortunately, that never happened after a tough draw – playing a top-10 seed in the second round (lost to Tsitsipas in five sets).
Canada is one of Andy Murray’s happy hunting grounds. He’s won the tournament three times before and will open up against Lorenzo Sonego on Monday/Tuesday.

Sonego Bounces Back in Umag
After his four-set defeat to fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon, Lorenzo Sonego made a brief stop on the Croatian clay, where he registered a pair of wins en route to the quarterfinal.
Sonego’s run was halted by eventual runner-up Stan Wawrinka in straight sets. He has negative win-loss record for the season, winning 19 of his 39 ATP matches in 2023.
On hard courts, the big-hitting Sonego is 6-7, winning the bulk of his matches in tournaments in Dubai and the Miami Masters, which account for five wins.
The 28-year-old had a rough patch adjusting to the grass this summer, managing just two wins from tournaments.
Historically, Sonego hasn’t fared too well at this stage of the season. In fact, he’s played the Canadian Open just once before, losing in the first round to Ugo Humbert two seasons ago.
Murray v Sonego Prediction and Tip
Sonego tested Murray in their last clash, and while he’s generally explosive with his serve and ground strokes, we’re not expecting surprises here as Murray is playing at a high level.
