In the very first month of the season, Kecmanovic had hit a career-best ranking of 27th on the ATP charts but since then, he hasn’t quite managed to find a way to retain that kind of place on the ATP Rankings.
The Serb did make the final of the Delray Beach after that but in the months that have followed he has won just 12 of the 29 matches he has played.
What mitigates things a little for Kecmanovic is his overall record in hardcourt competitions isn’t too off the mark. He has done his bit in such tournaments, having won 68 matches on this surface in his career to go with 66 defeats.
Interestingly, Kecmanovic has featured just once before in this tournament and that 2021 campaign had resulted in the Serb losing his opener to Kei Nishikori.

Garin Needs Qualifying Wins to Make the Main Draw
It’s been a strange season for Garin this year with the former world number 17 having fallen to outside the top 100 and doing better on hardcourt surfaces than he has ever done in his career.
Like for instance, he started off the season featuring in a Challenger tournament on hardcourt and made the semifinal there. He would then go on to feature in the qualifiers at the Indian Wells Open where he made the fourth round before entering the third round at the Miami Masters.
More recently, he was knocked out of the Los Cabos Open in the first round but has done well to qualify for this tournament.
Garin overcame Maxime Janvier in the first round before defeating Christopher O’Connell in the second to enter the main draw.
