Since 1978, the tournament was played every year till 2012 before it was discontinued for lack of sponsorship. It has been called by many different names including the Ambre Solaire Nations Cup from 1978 to 1981, Ambre Solaire World Team Cup from 1982 to 1986, Peugeot World Team Cup from 1987 to 1999 and ARAG World Team Cup till 2000.
