What Happened at the 2022 Transylvania Open?
The 2022 Transylvania Open saw Russian qualifier Anna Blinkova scoop up the title by defeating Jasmine Paolini in the final. She won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to lift her first ever title at this level.
Blinkova was one of six qualifiers to make the main draw and after defeating fellow Russian qualifier Anastasia Zakharova in the first round and Xinyu Wang in the second, she stunned the second seeded Anhelina Kalinina in the quarterfinals.
The fourth seeded Anastasia Potapova was sent packing in the semifinals after that.
The first edition of the Cluj-Napoca Open was won by Anett Kontaveit, who defeated local player and Romanian number one Simona Halep in straight sets. She won 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the title.
Kontaveit, who was the second seed in the tournament, did not drop a single set in the entire tournament with her first round, 6-3, 7-5 win over Aleksandra Krunic constituting the most games dropped in a match by the Estonian.
Halep had also come into the final with just 12 games lost but fell away rather quickly in the title-decider.
