Interestingly, some of the top players in action at this tournament included some of the top names in the world of tennis including Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem, both of whom have been tipped to go on to do big things in the world of tennis.
Also in action last season were Pablo Carreño Busta, John Isner, Sam Querrey, Kevin Anderson and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, while Grigor Dimitrov was a last-minute withdrawal after having a fitness concern as well.
Eighth seeded Tsonga crushed the top seeded Zverev in the quarter-final in straight sets before overcoming Philipp Kohlschreiber and Pouille in the next two rounds to win the title. Pouille’s route to the final was a tad lucky given Tsonga was the first seeded player he played against whole tournament.
The qualifiers for the competition will be held on October 20 and 21 this year and that will be followed by the main draw of the Vienna Open from October 22. Thiem is expected to take to court yet again this year but what needs to be seen is who will play this season’s competition.
More information on the Vienna Open draw will be on offer as we get closer to the start of the tournament, especially after there’s player confirmation on who all will feature in it.
The 2018 Vienna Open tips & predictions will be updated accordingly above towards the start of the competition.
