What Happened at the 2020 Winston-Salem Open?

There was no tournament held in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Hubert Hurkacz won the 2019 title at ATP Winston-Salem by beating the top seeded Benoit Paire in three sets. This win on the back of another win over the second seeded Denis Shapovalov in the semifinal, in what was a straightforward victory. Paire overcame Steve Johnson in a stunning scoreline, winning 1-6, 6-0, 6-0.

This was after defending champion Daniil Medvedev opted not to participate in the Winston-Salem Open last year following his brilliant run at the three tournaments prior to this one where he reached the final each time.

Medvedev won the 2018 Winston-Salem Open title by beating Steve Johnson in the final. This was after the top seeded David Goffin withdrew from the tournament before it began. Medvedev defeated Taro Daniel in the semi-final while Johnson overcame second seeded Pablo Carreno Busta in the other semi-final.

Some of the other players who made it to the last-eight stage included Ryan Harrison, Nicolas Jarry, Kyle Edmund and Chung Hyeon.
