Women’s Singles Seeded List in 2022
Barbora Krejcikova, Martina Trevisan, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Irina Begu, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Alize Cornet. Caroline Garcia was also meant to be a seeded player but withdrew from the tournament.
What Happened at the 2022 Cleveland Open?
The second edition of the Cleveland Open which was played in 2022 was won by the unseeded Liudmilla Samsonova.
Samsonova crushed Aliaksandra Sasnovich’s dreams by clinching the victory 6-1, 6-3.
The Russian did not drop a single set in the entire tournament, and lost just 18 games spread across the 10 sets she won in the competition. The most games she lost in a set was four, in her quarterfinal against Magda Linette.
Samsonova had earlier won the Washington Open, the last tournament in which she had participated.
Anett Kontaveit won the first ever edition of the Cleveland Open which was held in 2021 by defeating Irina-Camelia Begu in the final. She won 7-6 (5), 6-4 in what was her second title victory on the WTA circuit.
Kontaveit, the second seed in the tournament, sent Sara Sorribes Tormo packing from the semifinal while Begu overcame Magda Linette in the other last four encounter. Both matches ended in straight sets. Earlier, Linette had sent the top seeded Daria Kasatkina home in the quarterfinals.
