With Ash Barty having won the title at Birmingham, she decided to withdraw from this tournament but there were no replacements. Instead the second seeded Karolina Pliskova found herself an easier draw and she made it count with a solid showing, winning all straight-setters to lift the title. This included victories over Angelique Kerber in the final and Kiki Bertens in the semis before.
