She is right behind Karolina Pliskova by 70 odd points as of late September and that can very well change soon.
One player that we can definitely expect to see in Zhuhai is the 20-year-old Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. Most recently, she won the Wuhan Open after defeating the likes of Elina Svitolina, Carla Suarez Navarro, and Dominika Cibulkova.
That was her second title of the season and with that win, she moved up to the 15th place in the rankings. She has been incredible this season, to say the least, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see her go the distance here.
In addition to her, we also have the Belgian Elise Mertens, who has won an astounding three titles this year and has a win-loss record of 43-16 as of US Open.
She has been highly consistent so far and she is certainly one of the favourites to qualify for the tournament. Other players who we may see here are Daria Kasatkina, Madison Keys, Garbine Muguruza, and Ashleigh Barty.
