Best WTA Finals Picks & Tips for 2018
This year’s WTA Finals will be played in the last week of October, 2018 and will see some of the top-ranked women battling it out for the ultimate women’s tennis glory. Latest WTA Finals Tips, Predictions & Odds can be found here.
Caroline Wozniacki will kick-start the competition as the defending champion in the singles draw, having won the title last year defeating Venus Williams in the final of the tournament. This was after she had overcome Karolina Pliskova in the first semi-final and Williams had defeated Caroline Garcia in the second semi-final to make it to the final.
The WTA Finals are set to commence next week and the eight players who are going to compete in Singapore have been decided. The 2018 WTA Finals marks the end of the exciting WTA Tour we’ve witnessed this year.
Considering how the season went, we can only hope that the WTA Finals will live up to the expectations and provide us with some entertaining matches. Unfortunately for the fans, the absence of Simona Halep, the world number one and Serena Williams will be a dampener, but there are five Grand Slam winners featuring in the tournament this year.
Naomi Osaka, the US Open winner, will be joined by two previous US Open champions, Sloane Stephens and Angelique Kerber, along with Kiki Bertens in the same group. The other group will have the defending champion Wozniacki taking on Pliskova, Svitolina and Kvitova for a place in the semi-finals.
The tournament begins on Sunday, October 21 in Singapore.
All these players have had an interesting stint on the tour this year. Osaka, for instance, was a rank outsider going into the US Open but went on to win the title by beating Serena in the final. Before that, Wozniacki won the title at the Australian Open in what was her first ever Grand Slam title after years of trying while Halep made it her maiden title at the French Open beating Stephens in the final.
While Halep’s injury forced her out of this competition, the good news is that the 2017 US Open winner Stephens has made it through to the WTA Finals.
And then at the Wimbledon, Kerber breezed past the likes of Osaka, Bencic, Ostapenko and Williams in the final to grab the title.
The WTA Finals 2018 will be lit up by the presence of first-timer Osaka but more vitally, the absence of Williams makes it an even playing field, allowing the players to fight tooth and nail and come out trumps. The latest WTA Finals tips will be updated below as soon as the players’ list for the competition is revealed.
