It is categorized as an International tournament on the WTA Tour, which means that the champion here is awarded a total of 280 points. The Hungarian Ladies Open is conducted on indoor hard courts.
The 2017 edition of the tournament was the first one in the tournament’s history, prior to which it was known as the Budapest Grand Prix. Over the years, the likes of Dominika Cibulkova, Simona Halep, Lucie Safarova, and Timea Babos have participated in the competition.
Interestingly, the tournament wasn’t conducted for a couple of seasons between 2014-15, when it was replaced by Bucharest Open. In 2016, the tournament was reinstated once again as an ITF $100,000 event, after which it was bumped up to the International level again.
2019 WTA Hungarian Ladies Open Schedule & Dates:
The 2019 Hungarian Ladies Open will be played between February 17 and February 24, at the Europe Tennis Center, Budapest. As for the qualifying matches, they will take place over the weekend preceding to the main draw. What Happened at the 2018 WTA Hungarian Ladies Open?
The defending champion was the local favorite Timea Babos. However, this time around, the best she could do was make it as far as the second round before succumbing to the German Mona Barthel. The early rounds also witnessed the exit of other top seeds such as Vekic, Aleksandra Krunic, and Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

The tournament was ultimately won by the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck, who on her way to the final, defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu and Shuai Zhang. In the final, she met the top seed Dominika Cibulkova, who up until that point had not dropped even a single set in Budapest.
Against the Belgian, however, she did face some difficulties. Despite being considerably experienced and starting as the favorite, the Slovakian eventually succumbed to Uytvanck 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.
