This tournament was earlier called the Royal Indian Open and was played in Pune in 2012. It wasn’t played between 2013 and 2016 before making a return its return in the current avatar as the WTA Mumbai Open. Hosted on outdoor hard courts at the CCI in Mumbai, it’s a part of the Challenger Series in the women’s circuit and this edition of the WTA Mumbai Open will be played from October 29 to November 4.

Currently, it belongs to the WTA 125K series and has given two of the biggest names in recent times as its winners on the two occasions it was played – Elina Svitolina in 2012 and Aryna Sabalenka last year.

Interestingly, when the concept of WTA 125s was introduced, the Mumbai Open, or as it was then called, the Pune Open, was just the second competition after the Taipei Open to become a part of it. Since then, a few others have been added to the list.

WTA Mumbai Open Schedule:

The qualifiers will be played from October 27 to October 28 while the matches for the main draw begin on October 29. On October 29, however, there will only be a few of the first round matches because it clashes with the India-West Indies cricket series game that will also be played at the same venue from that very afternoon. If you are travelling to Mumbai to watch the WTA Mumbai, you could also look at visiting the Brabourne Stadium nearby for that cricket match.
