WTA Nurnberg Open, also known as Nuremberg Cup, is a women’s professional tennis tournament conducted by the Women’s Tennis Association. The tournament falls under the international tier on the WTA Tour and is played right before the French Open on the clay surface. What Happened at the 2019 WTA Nurnberg Open?
Yulia Putintseva walks into the tournament as the defending champion after the top seed won the previous edition of the Nurnberg Open. She was a three-setter winner over Tamara Zidansek in the title-decider, having earlier also defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam in the quarterfinal in three sets.
Also making it to the semifinal was the second seed Katerina Siniakova, who lost to Zidansek but none of the remaining seeds even reached the quarterfinals. The likes of Ajla Tomljanovic, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Andrea Petkovic all made it to the second round.
