The Tianjin Open is a WTA 250 level tennis event held at the Tianjin International Tennis Center. It is the upcoming women’s professional tennis tournament to be played on hard courts and will be in its seventh season.
There are six WTA level tournaments in China. There are a couple of WTA 1000 tournaments Beijing and Wuhan while the rest of the competitions are played in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and lastly in Tianjin.
The Tianjin is an important competition which has attracted some of the big players to take part in it. Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska are among the previous winners of the tournament.
2023 WTA Tianjin Open Schedule & Dates
The 2023 edition of the tournament will kick-start from the Tuanbo International Tennis Centre in Tianjin, China between October 16 and 22, 2023.
The qualifiers will be held on the weekend before the start of the first round matches while the final set will be held on Sunday, October 22.
The event will be held at the Tianjin International Tennis Center which has a center court that seats 3,500 people, as well as 12 outdoor courts with lights, four indoor courts and a tennis club.

The player list for the Tianjin Open will be released closer to the start of the tournament.
The last time it was played, i.e. in 2019 because the 2020 edition was cancelled, some of the top players took part. Sofia Kenin withdrew after making it as a top seed which made Wang Qiang as the highest-ranked played in the competition, followed by Dayana Yastremksa.

What Happened at the 2022 WTA Tianjin Open?
The 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions of the Tianjin Open weren’t held.
In 2019, unseeded Rebecca Peterson and Heather Watson made it to the final with the Swede Peterson clinching the title in straight sets.
None of the seeded players made it as far as the semifinal either, with Ons Jabeur and Veronika Kudermetova being the other losing semifinalists.
The top two seeds in the 2018 Tianjin Open were Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Garcia. These two were the favorites to win the competition right from the beginning and they did not disappoint. Both the players made it to the finals without much trouble in the prior rounds.
Pliskova led the head-to-head against Caroline Garcia 3-2, and had won their two most recent meetings in Doha and Roland Garros in straight sets. She went into the finals looking to bring home the prize but Caroline Garcia had other plans.
Garcia was competing in her first final since completing the Asian double of titles in Wuhan and Beijing and was was enjoying a fine run of form. As it turned out, Garcia took the first set to tie-breaker and eventually took the lead.
Thereafter, she had came out all guns blazing in the second set to clinch the title in straight sets without much resistance from Pliskova.
