Bautista-Agut v Gasquet Head to Head

The pair have met five times before, with Bautista-Agut leading their head to head series by four matches to one. Gasquet was victorious in their second meeting in Dubai in 2015, but the Spaniard has won all their other encounters, the most recent of which came in the Rogers Cup just last week, when he won in straight sets.

Bautista-Agut Closing in on Masters Final

The Wimbledon semi-finalist is now in his third Masters quarter-final of the year, after reaching this stage previously in Miami, and again in Montreal last week. He lost those other two matches, but has an excellent chance now to reach the final here, because of how the events have panned out in Cincinnati, where he is the highest ranked player left in the bottom-half of the draw.

After beating Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the first round comfortably on Tuesday, he was given a stiffer examination by Frances Tiafoe of the United States on Wednesday, and dropped the second set to the American, before finding another level to close out the match.

However, he absolutely thrashed Serb teenager Miomir Kecmanovic in his third round on Thursday, dropping just three games and spending barely an hour on court. Confidence is running through his veins, and he will be entertaining thoughts even of clinching his 10th ATP career title on Sunday.

Gasquet, Back to His Best After Injury

33-year-old Frenchman Gasquet is one of the most experienced players on the ATP tour, and has won 15 senior titles in a pro career stretching back to 2002, the most recent of which came last year in June on the grass of s-Hertogenbosch.

His progress since then has been hampered by the injury which forced him to miss France’s Davis Cup final with Croatia in November, and the resultant surgery meant he missed the first part of this season. Since returning to the tour he has struggled for form, and, prior to this week, a semi-final at s-Hertogenbosch again was the best he had managed.

However, after putting an end to Andy Murray’s comeback in the first round here, he had a stroke of fortune after his intended opponent Dominic Thiem was forced to scratch due to illness. He duly capitalised on his luck by beating Diego Schwartzman, winner in Los Cabos, in the third round to reach the quarter-final, equalling his best showing in this event which came in 2015.

Bautista-Agut v Gasquet Predictions & Tips

Bautista-Agut is the clear favourite to win this match at 5/18, whilst Gasquet is priced at 11/4. Whilst Gasquet will enjoy being back in a Masters quarter-final again, his opponent has ambitions for more. The Spaniard beat Gasquet in Montreal, and should do so again here.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
