In the three times Barty and Sakkari have met on the tour, the Aussie has won on two instances. Most recently, they met in the Australian Open this year where Ash won the match with 7-5, 6-1.
Barty on a Roll
With the US Open right around the corner, Barty’s phenomenal form couldn’t have come at a better time. Last week in Rogers Cup, she lost her opening round fixture to Sofia Kenin and cast some serious doubts about her contention for the title at the Flushing Meadows.
However, she has put all of those speculations to bed in Cincinnati as she dominated the play with great style. In her opening match here, she knocked out Maria Sharapova in straight sets and followed it with a clinical win, three-setter against Anett Kontaveit.
The cricketer-turned-tennis star has had a season to be proud of. With three singles titles, including the French Open and WTA Birmingham, she has been in a lethal form with a win-loss tally of 41-7, including her current streak. At the same time, it is worth noting that of those seven losses, three of them have been at the hands of lowly-ranked players.

Sakkari with Some Serious Firepower
Proving her mettle once again, Maria Sakkari has been on a roll in Cincinnati. Facing a series of strong opponents, she dispatched them without as much as batting an eye.
After moving past Camila Giorgi in the first round, she knocked out the Czech veteran Petra Kvitova and Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. She single-handedly delivered these massive upsets to put up what has unarguably been one of her best performances in the 2019 season.
Having started the season on a rather mundane note, Sakkari picked up momentum in the second half by winning the Rabat Open. Later, she reached the semifinal in the Italian Open and WTA San Jose, defeating the likes of Elina Svitolina and Kvitova.
Of course, she hasn’t been this clinical throughout but that isn’t to say that she hasn’t got the skills needed to deliver on big stages.
Barty v Sakkari Prediction & Tips
Given the way Sakkari is playing right now, this won’t be an easy match for Barty. Expect three sets in this game with a lot of quality tennis to follow. Sakkari is clearly not a stranger to playing and defeating top 10 players while Barty, much to her chagrin, isn’t entirely immune to these kinds of opponents.
