Andy Murray became the second high profile name to withdraw from the Rogers Cup after Roger Federer. Murray cited his need to continue his rehab for his hip surgery behind his decision.
Murray, who featured in the Washington Open earlier this week after falling to outside the top 800 in the ATP World Rankings, also withdrew from his quarter-final encounter against Australian Alex de Minaur.
In his third tournament since the return from his injury, Murray looked to have played the best match since his return from the hip injury against Marius Copil and he sobbed at the end of that victory.
He will now participate in the Cincinnati Masters as his last tournament before making it to the US Open. The US Open will kick-start from the final week of the month.

Speaking about his decision to withdraw from both, the Washington Open and Rogers Cup, Murray cited exhaustion as one of the reasons. He said:
“I’m exhausted after playing so much over the past four days, having not competed on the hard courts for 18 months. I also need to be careful and to listen to my body as I come back from a long-term injury.”
Murray had earlier missed the Wimbledon as well despite having returned to the ATP circuit.
In other news, Serena Williams will also give the Rogers Cup a miss for personal reasons. Williams had earlier suffered the worst loss of her career at the San Jose Open, losing to Johanna Konta in her opener, 6-1, 6-0.
After finishing runner-up at the 2018 Wimbledon, a tournament that was her fourth since her child’s delivery, she had gone into the San Jose Open as one of the favourites but her early exit might be the reason for her withdrawal.
Tatjana Maria will take her place at the Montreal Open now and face Alize Cornet in their first round encounter. It remains to be seen how Williams goes about her business during the US Open.
