Caroline Wozniacki v Mihaela Buzarnescu Head to Head

The two ladies have met only twice on the tour and the Dane, not so surprisingly, has won both of their meetings. Coincidentally, Wozniacki’s wins came in the first round of the back-to-back Grand Slams in the 2017 US Open and the 2018 Australian Open.

Wozniacki’s Looking for a Resurgence on Clay

The Dane started the year as the World No. 3 but following her struggles with form and illness, she dropped out of the top 10.

In WTA Auckland, she lost in the second round to Bianca Andreescu while in Melbourne, she was knocked out by Maria Sharapova in the third round. Wozniacki then skipped the entire Middle-East swing citing viral illness and made a comeback in Indian Wells.

Over there, she lost her opening match to Ekaterina Alexandrova. In Miami, she reached the fourth round before falling to Su-Wei Hsieh.

It is quite clear that the former Volvo Car Open champion is slowly building her form once again and is finding her groove on the tour. In Charleston, she started with a straight-set win over Laura Siegemund to reach the next round.

Buzarescu’s Struggles with her Form

Before coming to Charleston, the Romanian had won only one match on the WTA Tour this season. That win came in the Mexican Open, where she eventually lost in the second round to Andreescu.

In all of her other competitions, she has lost her opening matches, including the ones in Brisbane, Hobart, Doha, Dubai, Indian Wells, and Miami.

Buzarnescu, who had a breakthrough season last year after reaching the final in WTA Hobart, WTA Prague, and later winning the WTA San Jose, has had a good run in Charleston so far. She defeated the Polish qualifier Magdalena Frech in the opener and then moved past Lauren Davis in the next round.

Wozniacki v Buzarnescu Predictions & Tips

Buzarnescu is a player who is capable of delivering interesting results. Despite her recent struggles with form, she can very well challenge Wozniacki and give her a good fight. The Dane herself hasn’t been that sharp of late and may find herself in trouble.

However, for all intents and purposes, the Dane will start as the favourite here and will be expected to win this one, given her superior experience.

Tip: Wozniacki to win 2-1: 11/4 (Bet365)
