Angelique Kerber v Kirsten Flipkens Head to Head

Kerber presently holds a 3-0 lead over her Belgian adversary. They last met in the 2017 Wimbledon, where the German won in straight sets.

Kerber Finds her Rhythm

The German’s performance over the last couple of weeks has improved drastically. Having started the season on a rather average note (early exits in the WTA Sydney and Australian Open), she reached the semifinal in WTA Doha and later, reached the final in the Indian Wells Open.

That was Kerber’s first final on the WTA Tour since her winning run at the SW19 last season. In Indian Wells, she lost to Bianca Andreescu and moved on to incur a similar defeat in Miami too, this time in the third round.

In Monterrey, Kerber started her campaign with a straight-set win over Kristina Kucova and later, she defeated Karolina Muchova with a similar score. Courtesy of her recent form, the top seed is back into the top five once again and now, she is hoping to move up further.

Flipkens Delivers a Decent Performance

Flipkens, who was the runner-up in the tournament back in 2016, started her run with a couple of straight-set victories over Olga Danilovic and Dalila Jakupovic. This is also the second time this season that she has reached the quarterfinal on the tour.

The 2018 Rosmalen Championships runner-up reached the quarterfinal in Hobart earlier this year, where she lost to Sofia Kennin. In the same tournament, however, she was the runner-up in the doubles segment, partnered with Johanna Larsson.

Between then and now, Flipkens incurred a series of early losses in Melbourne, St. Petersburg, Indian Wells, and Miami.

Kerber v Flipkens Predictions & Tips

There is no doubt in the fact that Kerber will start this match as the favourite to win. She has the psychological edge over the Belgian, in addition to a superior form and momentum. While Flipkens is certainly a talented player, it is difficult to imagine her defeating Kerber on the back of an inconsistent form.

Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 8/11 (betway)
