Petra Kvitova v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head
The pair have met a total of five times on the WTA Tour. Kvitova has won on three of those occasions and she currently leads Kontaveit by 3-2.
When we look into their previous encounters, things get a little more interesting. The two wins that Kontaveit has landed over Kvitova in her career came in the 2018 French Open and in the second round of the WTA Brisbane earlier this year.
Yet Another Final for Kvitova
So far this season, the Czech has reached four finals on the WTA Tour, including this one. She won the title in Sydney and then was the runner-up in the Australian Open.
She repeated that feat once again, this time in the WTA Dubai where she ultimately lost to Belinda Bencic. This final in Stuttgart is her 10th one since her return to the tour following her knife attack. Needless to mention, her performance on the tour since then has been nothing short of inspirational.
The reigning Madrid Open champion has lost only six matches this year and of those, only two came in the early rounds. Even in Stuttgart, she has been quite clinical, starting with good wins over Greetje Minnen and Anastasija Sevastova. In the semifinal, she knocked out Kiki Bertens in three gruelling sets.
The match went on for a little over two hours and saw Kvitova keep her first service win rate at 78%. She also saved five break points in the process and brought in her experience to keep a determined Bertens at bay.
Luck Favours Kontaveit in Stuttgart
The last week has been quite promising for the Estonian. Starting in the first round, she defeated Caroline Garcia and followed it with an efficient win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
She got fairly lucky in the quarterfinal when she went up against Victoria Azarenka. She was on the verge of losing the match in the second round but staged a stunning comeback to take the win eventually. Of course, she was also aided by Azarenka’s withdrawal owing to an injury.
The Estonian got luckier in the semifinal when Naomi Osaka pulled out of the tournament owing to an abdominal injury. With that, Kontaveit has reached her first final on the tour on clay since the 2017 Swiss Open.
Kontaveit’s previous tournament was in Miami, where she was a semifinalist. Before that, she had a rather mundane time on the tour with many not-so-interesting runs.
Kvitova v Kontaveit Predictions & Tips
Kvitova will start this match as the favourite to win, at least on paper. Kontaveit has always proved to be a challenging opponent and this too, we can expect her to put up a good fight.
This is, in fact, an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (888Sport)
