Pliskova holds an imposing 6-1 lead over Konta, defeating her in the final of the 2019 Italian Open. The only time that Konta has bagged a win was in the China Open in 2016.

Given Konta’s disastrous run in the US Open Series, where she lost in the first round in Toronto and Cincinnati, not a lot of people would have predicted that she would make it this far in the Flushing Meadows. Yet, here she is, ready to leave her mark.
The number 16 seed is yet to drop a set in the tournament and so far, has dispatched the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Margarita Gasparyan, and Shuai Zhang with utmost finesse and ease. The last time we witnessed Konta on a streak like this was on the clay swing this year, where she reached the final in Rabat and Rome.
Despite a performance like this, the Brit No. 1 hasn’t won a singles title since the Miami Open 2017. But at the same time, it is good to see her on a roll such as this one, especially considering the poor start she had to the year. Now back in the top 20, Konta will be hoping to end the season on a better note. At the moment, her strike rate stands at 33-15.
Pliskova, Looking Lethal as Usual
For the 27-year-old World No. 3, things have gone pretty much according to the plan. Having reached the final here back in 2016 and quarterfinal over the last two editions, it comes as no surprise to see her on the course to repeat that feat again.
So far, her victims have been Tereza Martincova, Mariam Bolkvadze, and Ons Jabeur. Surprisingly, Pliskova was pushed to three sets against Jabeur before finally finding the win.
With back to back quarterfinal runs in Toronto and Cincinnati, Pliskova has been absolutely fantastic and consistent for most of this season. Her win-loss tally has now improved to 45-12 with three singles titles from the Brisbane International, Italian Open, and WTA Eastbourne.
Apart from that, she has also been a regular in the penultimate rounds.

This is not going to be an easy match for Konta. Pliskova has a psychological edge over the Brit as it is, and when you combine her recent form, it becomes all the more evident. However, that isn’t to say that Konta hasn’t got what it takes to defeat her Czech adversary. She has surprised us on a few occasions in the past and can very well do that again here. All in all, we have an epic tie in our hands.
